Jamie Oliver: booking a plane ticket to Glasgow soon

According to Jamie Oliver’s website, his new Italian restaurant is scheduled to open in Glasgow’s George Square in July. Over 1400 people applied to work with the chef and just under a hundred have been recruited to the team.

In Edinburgh, the start of next week should see the launch of Cuthbert’s Coffee and Sandwich Bar in Fountainbridge. It looks as though it might be rather swanky.

Wetherspoons have opened another bar on the capital’s George Street. It’s called the Alexander Graham Bell as the inventor of the telephone was apparently born around the corner.

We also hear that a new restaurant is to launch in the former council offices on The Royal Mile. It will be called Angels With Bagpipes. Watch this space for more details come July.

There’s a lot of activity around Edinburgh’s Nicolson Square at the moment with a branch of Iman’s Grill, a Punjabi restaurant, and Edinburgh’s first Lebanese restaurant, called Beirut, looking as though they might open soon.

In Broxburn, Papa Chan’s has opened on East Main Street in Broxburn. A restaurant and takeaway, it describes itself as Chinese in concept but with a slight Italian twist. Eat your heart out, Jamie Oliver.

Jamie aside, Glasgow seems a little quiet at the moment. Any tips about lovely new openings in Glasvegas?
