Back in 2006, when Italy won the World Cup, the Fratelli Sarti restaurants in Glasgow were the place to be after Fabio Grosso’s winning penalty secured the World Cup for Italy.

Legend has it that the customers conga-ed their way from the restaurants to the impromptu celebrations in George Square.

Italy’s World Cup campaign has got off to a very shaky start this year but that hasn’t stopped the optomists at Glasgow’s Sarti restaurants from launching their own World Cup menu.

Fratelli Sarti are showing the group games throughout the tournament and its World Cup menu offers two courses plus coffee and a bottle of Moretti beer, a glass of Italian house wine or a soft drink for just £18 per person.

Italy’s next crucial match is on Thursday afternoon against Slovakia. Depending on the score line at the final whistle, The Sarti restaurants are said to be gearing up for one of the busiest or most morose nights for a long time.
