Charan Gill, the original founder and former owner of the Harlequin group of Indian restaurants, is not a man who likes to stand still and he currently is running two wizard wheezes to attract custom to his Slumdog restaurant on Sauchiehall Street.

Tonight is the next in his weekly series of curry and comedy nights. For the sum of £19.95, diners can enjoy an Indian banquet and, hopefully, chortles courtesy of the comics Stu Who?, Joe Heenan and Scott Agnew.

Charan’s other brain wave is to offer VIP boxes for World Cup matches. Seating up to twenty, the banquet and footie packages are aimed at the business community. Cunningly, the prices are steeped to reflect the importance of the matches.

The price of the banquet for all games played Monday to Friday at 12.30pm and 3.00pm will be £15.95, weekend and evening games are £24.95 and the semi finals and final £29.95. VAT will be added to these prices.

Slumdog is going to try to secure beers from every country playing in the World Cup; a task which should be easy for Australia and Germany but a little more tricky when it comes to North Korea.
