A young fan of Grow It, Cook It, Eat It

Looking for foodie activities for the weekend? You’ve come to the right place.

The Edinburgh School of Food & Wine has teamed up with Slow Food Edinburgh and will be giving a cooking demonstration to visitors at the Castle Street Farmers Market in Edinburgh this weekend.

One of the School’s resident chefs and tutors, Samantha Kirk, will be at the market on Saturday at 10am to choose a selection of ingredients from the market stalls, before cooking a selection of dishes on the Slow Food Stall.

On the other side of the country, The National Museum of Rural Life at Kittochside, East Kilbride, will be giving visitors an insight into home-grown self-sufficiency as part of a special Grow it, Cook it, Eat it event on Sunday.

Walks, talks, tastings and demonstrations will be on offer with sessions on topics ranging from the art of beekeeping, poultry-keeping and butter-making to growing your own produce in small spaces such as patios and window boxes.

A number of Wild Food Walks will highlight the edible produce on offer in the countryside and a food writer and stylist will conduct cookery demonstrations for families.

In addition, two historical interpreters will cook-up some of the dishes that would have been eaten in the days of Robbie Burns as part of an 18th century kitchen demo.

There will also be treats from local food producers including ice cream from Thorntonhall, Mrs Chrymble’s chocolate and adult-only tastings from Strathaven Brewery.

If you are still peckish afterwards then you know what to do. Click over to the 5pm browse restaurants page and check out the offers in Lanarkshire.
