][1]Yesterday, the blog had an impromptu tour of the Corinthian Club on Glasgow’s Ingram Street.
Closed in January, the flagship venue of Stefan King’s G1 Group is scheduled to re-open in the final week of August and it’s a doozie.
The entire building has been given a top to toe refit and pretty much every one of the multi-million pounds it is said to have cost is on display.
We’ll fill in the details closer to the opening date but we’ll tell you that there are some fourteen rooms spread over five floors and, when they are finished, I think they are all going to look pretty spectacular.
The details that stick in my mind are: a bar made from bank safes in the Bootleg Bar; tables which double as catwalks in the blingtastic Boutique Bar and a recreation of the (in) famous Charlie Parker’s bar which incorporates a grand piano set into the actual bar.
Charlie Parker’s also has a karaoke machine, said to be unique in Scotland, where the singer is backed by life size video footage of the band playing the chosen song.
The huge glass dome which always defined the main bar has been refurbed and it looks magnificent.
The phrase ‘there is nothing else quite like this in town’ is overused but it’s true of the new look Corinthian. It doesn’t look like a million dollars. It looks considerably more upmarket than that.
