Eat cake at Cup

As always, Byres Road is a hotbed of intrigue as far as the catering trade goes. Mediterraneo has bid its customers a fond adieu and been replaced with Cup who have signed up with 5pm.

Specialising in fine tea and yummy cakes, their calling card is a three tier afternoon tea. You can see their menu on 5pm here.

Not so far away, on the corner of Lynedoch Street and Woodlands Road, we hear news of a new bar called The Drake. More details when we get ’em.

Over at the Glasgow West End Dining site, Roy Beers has got a whiff of a new restaurant opening in the former Costa on the Great Western Road and has also unearthed news of a new bar restaurant in Clarkston.

Called Clark and Sons, it replaces Rascasse and, according to Roy, it’s the brainchild of Ryan Barrie who has Citation in the Merchant City.

The blog also liked this story in The Telegraph about the BrewDog boys. We’ve banged on about them countless times but it seems that the punk brewers of Fraserburgh could be on the verge of getting their own telly series based around American craft beers.

The Tailend Fish Bar and Restaurant in Edinburgh made waves when it opened on Leith Walk in Edinburgh a couple of years back.

Run by a fish merchant and one of the previous owners of the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar, it was not only one of Edinburgh’s best chippies but its next door restaurant operation brought scallops, monkfish and even lobster to Leith Walk; a feat which, only a few years ago, would have been about as likely as Gazza coordinating a Middle East Peace accord.

It’s been up for sale over the last few months. I don’t know if someone has bought it but a new branch of The Tailend has just opened on Market Street in St Andrews.

Have a corking weekend.
