Angels With Bagpipes is a new Scottish Italian restaurant which opens on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile today.

It’s the baby of Marina Crolla whose grandfather Alfonso Crolla opened the Valvona and Crolla deli.

Located in the former council buildings, the 80 cover restaurant takes its name from a wood carving of angels with bagpipes which can be found in the nearby St Giles Cathedral.

Scottish and Italian produce will go into a menu packed with dishes such as haggis ravioli, fennel and radicchio risotto, capellini with zucchini and crema gorgonzola, ale battered fillet of haddock and Scottish king scallops with Stornaway blackpudding.

Angels With Bagpipes will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.

Of course, there are several 5pm Italian restaurants close by. Cucina at Hotel Missoni is the closest while, like Angels With Bagpipes, Centotre and Zanzero are run by a branch of the Crolla family.
