][1]A new bar has opened on Elderslie Street in Glasgow.
Called The Pioneer, it has started pouring the pints on the former site of the Bollywood Indian restaurant. Those with longer memories might recall that it used to be the Observatory.
I think it might have been a bar called The Cliveden after it was Bollywood but it opened and shut before most people, including me, noticed.
Hopefully, the new venture will have a longer shelf life. They are certainly doing a few things that make it stand out from the crowd, not least their intriguing grub menu.
Like many others, they do a burger deal at certain times of the week but The Pioneer also dishes up smoked mackerel and beetroot pates, braised oxtail with squash and cinnamon, southern-fried rabbit and grilled Italian sausages served with a Puy lentil stew.
Even their fish ‘n’ chips sound posh: it’s proper scampi with hand-cut chips.
