Perth is celebrating its 800th anniversary as a city this year and one of its big food-related events kicks off today as Perthshire on a Plate gets underway.

Celebrity rat-cooker, sorry, Ready, Steady, Cook chef, Gino D’Acampo is the star exhibit at the two day food festival and he will be demoing two sessions at the Famous Grouse Experience demo stage in Perth Concert Hall.

The other chefs appearing may not have been in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here but they definitely know their way around a kitchen.

As well as representatives from the much praised Opus One, another 5pm member restaurant, 63 Tay Street, will be displaying their skills courtesy of chef Graeme Pallister.

We blogged about 63 Tay Street earlier this week when we heard that the restaurant had been awarded Gold EatScotland status.

Also of interest to food fans is the Scottish Game Fair which runs at Scone Palace from today until Sunday.

Everything from spit roast pork rolls to wild boar kebabs via Scottish seafood will be available to munch while the Food Hall and demo theatre will be showcasing the best Scottish produce.

I’m looking forward to the sheep racing.
