'We're looking for a lovely plate of food.'

Yay! After what seems like an eternity since Masterchef last ended, Celebrity Masterchef is back on our screens tonight.

At 8pm, John Torode and Gregg Wallace will be back on BBC One to terrorise a fresh batch of contestants and, in Gregg’s case, mangle the English language.

This is the fifth series of Celebrity Masterchef and, IMHO, the line-up looks a bit ropey.

Obviously, I’ve heard of Tessa Sanderson but actor Neil Stuke, Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Richard Farleigh, Brookside actress Alex Fletcher and DJ Nihal Arthanayake are all new to me.

It’s incredible how popular watching other people cook has become. In Australia, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the opposition leader, Tony Abbott agreed to reschedule a televised election debate as they didn’t want to clash with the final of Australian Masterchef.

If you fancy your chances on the next series of Masterchef then the TV production company is looking for applications here.
