Earlier this year, Stravaigin hit the headlines when they served grey squirrel on their Wild Food menu.

It seemed very daring at the time but, according to this report in The Telegraph, a branch of Budgens in London has started selling packs of grey squirrel.

When the supermarkets start selling the meat, it loses some of its wild frontier cachet. How long before they are available on a BOGOF deal?

Stravaigin’s next Wild Food night is on Thursday 30 September. It’s theme will be the glorious veggie foods which can be foraged in Scotland.

A typical course is the kelp broth with trompette mushrooms, pignut and ginger wontons.

Also in the headlines today is this Record story about Glasgow’s Jamie’s Italian restaurant having to shut early because they ran out of food.

I imagine that this was bitter sweet news for Glasgow’s many other Italian restaurant owners who must have permitted themselves a wry smile at the thought of Jamie’s having to close early.

However, their pleasure was probably tempered by the startling fact that the restaurant claims to have done 686 covers on the day in question.

Other Italian restaurants are available in Glasgow and you can get a deal on your meal at those which have signed up to 5pm. You know the score: go to the restaurant booking page and click on Glasgow and Italian cuisine.
