There is an unusual meal on the menu at Vittorias

If you live in Edinburgh then you can’t fail to have noticed a little thing called the Festival which is going on at the mo.

Whether you want highbrow opera or comedy that rarely raises it sights above waist level, it’s all here and it is, frankly, brilliant.

As always, there is a lot of good stuff for those of us whose next meal is seldom far from our thoughts.

The Foodies Festival which kicks off at Holyrood Park on Friday is one of the biggies and we’ll cover it in more depth tomorrow.

In the meantime, there are plenty of shows that combine the culinary arts with comedy, literature and song.

If you are feeling very brave then there is the Naked Brunch show at C Central on Sunday 22 August.

Offering less scope for jokes about chippolatas is a show which is fast becoming a Fringe favourite: Faulty Towers the Dining Experience. Held at B’est, diners get to experience what it might have been like to be a guest in Britain’s best known sit com hotel.

The Siberian hamster is not on the menu but it is odds on to make an appearance.

In a similar vein is La Locandiera, an Italian comedy which is being held at Vittoria’s on Leith Walk as part of the restaurant’s 40th birthday celebrations.

The party room at Vittoria’s is being transformed into an eighteenth century Florentine Inn in order to provide the setting for the comedy.

You can choose to watch the play while eating a two course lunch or three course dinner.

Apparently, Hardeep Singh Kohli’s Masala Chat Show is selling fast, so book quickly if you want to see the TV presenter and comic rustle up a curry while blethering with the audience.

You might also want to think about Anthony Bourdain who is appearing at the Book Festival on Satuday 28 August to talk about his new book Medium Raw.

If all this is making you hungry, then 5pm’s Edinburgh restaurants have plenty of great offers available and they are just a couple of clicks away.
