The blog had a bite to eat at the Festival in the Sky on Saturday.

As regular readers will know, it’s a 22 seat dinner table which is hoisted one hundred feet into the air. Dinner is served while you dangle.

The pie in the sky dining table is in Princes Street Gardens for the month of August and the people behind it are hoping that some 12,000 visitors will book in and take to the skies over the course of the next 30 days.

A table with a view

It is a fun experience, if you have a head for heights. Having previously checked in to the departure lounge, guests are strapped securely into their seats and then the table is slowly and steadily winched up.

As you gain height, Edinburgh’s skyline gradually expands in front of you and you get a novel view of the city. It’s actually very serene although glancing down can be a bit worrying.

With packages starting at £32.50 for breakfast, it’s not cheap but unlike, say, paying fifteeen notes to see a mediocre stand-up perform for an hour, the Festival in the Sky will stay in your memory for a very long time.
