Rogano's Art Deco bar

Glasgow’s Rogano is celebrating its 75th birthday this coming Sunday with a special menu.

Priced at £5 for a two course lunch and £10 for a two course dinner, the prices belong to yesteryear.

Featuring dishes such as prawn cocktail, Chicken Maryland and sole Mornay, the menu is packed with classics which have been served at the restaurant since it opened.

Legend has it that the place was kitted out using fixtures and fittings that may originally have been intended for the Queen Mary liner; a ship which was being built on the Clyde at the same time as Rogano was taking shape.

I’ve no idea if the story is true or not but it seems like a suitably romantic tale for a restaurant that attracts stories as easily as it attracts the rich and famous.

Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra and Madonna have all sat at Rogano’s tables at some point over its 75 years.

If you can’t make it on the Sunday then their regular 5pm offers here.
