The mighty G1 Group never sleeps. When not opening new restaurants and bars (look out for one of their Bothy restaurants in St Andrews at some point this year), then they are making sure that their existing joints look suitably fresh faced.

The latest to get an overhaul is the Grosvenor Cafe in Ashton Lane. It re-opens properly on Friday night but they are having a wee partyette tomorrow evening.

Don’t tell everyone but rumour has it that clicking here takes you through to the guest list registration page.

Sticking with Glasgow, 5pm understands that the former Ad Lib on Ingram Street is to become Balthassar, a cafe, bar and restaurant.

We think it is going to be a swish French joint with Jim Kerr, formerly of The Dining Room, in the kitchen’s driving seat.

We also hear that Iain McMaster, the chef who is behind Tattie Macs on Otago Street, The Partners Bistro in Bearsden and The Partners Italian Bistro on Great Western Road, intends to open a Spanish tapas restaurant on the site just vacated by The Dining Room.

Over in Edinburgh, the Edinburgh Spotlight website has a review of a new Vietnamese restaurant. Called Pho Vietnam House, the review is here.

Finally, today’s blog ends with a blatant plug. I’m on the Fred MacAulay Show on Radio Scotland this morning blethering about what makes a decent pub. If the morning isn’t too early to start thinking about the boozer then I’m on at around half ten.
