La Cucina at Hotel Missoni

According to recent news, the UK economy is growing at roughly twice the speed which most pundits predicted.

It may not feel like that to everyone. However, a couple of Central Belt restaurants have just announced spectacular dinners which aren’t cheap but which will almost certainly linger in the memory long after the credit card bill has been paid off.

In Edinburgh, La Cucina restaurant in Hotel Missoni is teaming up with celeb chef Giorgio Locatelli to host a five course truffle dinner. La Cucina’s head chef, Mattia Camorani, did a lot of his training with Locatelli and both of the Italian chefs are more than a little excited at the thought of getting stuck in to the truffles.

Giorgio Locatelli said; ‘The white truffles we will serve are from San Pietro a Pettine, an estate with over 700 acres of ancient woods and some of the best truffle hunting grounds in Italy.  White truffles are at their most flavoursome this time of year and are perfectly ripe and full of flavour.  The menu really is exquisite and bursting with flavour – I can’t wait to let our guests sample the dishes.’

The dinner is on Wed 10 November. It costs £110 per head or £150 including matching wines.

If that seems steep then check out La Cucina’s more accessible 5pm offers. They are currently offering two courses on the pre-theatre at £12.

In Glasgow, the Restaurant at Blythswood Square is pushing the boat out with one of their regular Wine Man’s Bluff dinners.

The wine tasting dinner is run by Inverarity Vaults who describe the format as a sort of Call My Bluff with wine.

After a tasting session in The Rally Bar, the evening moves into the Monte Carlo suite for a four course dinner which has been created by exec chef Dan Hall to match the wines.

Tickets are £75 per person and include a welcome drink, Wine Man’s Bluff wine tasting hosted by Inverarity Vaults and a four course dinner with wine to match. It takes place on Fri 12 November.

Alternatively, the Restaurant at Blythswood Square has a 5pm offer on their evening market menu. It’s £16.50 for two courses.
