Poppadom towers: coming soon to an Indian restaurant near you

National Curry Week launches today which seems as good an excuse as any to tuck into the UK’s other national dish.

Essentially, it’s a charity bash with participating restaurants asking customers to donate to the Curry Tree Charitable Fund.

Among the Scottish restaurants taking part are the 5pm members Britannia Spice and Mezbaan in Edinburgh and Koolba and Mr Singh’s India in Glasgow.

In previous years, restaurants have competed to see who could build the tallest free-standing poppadom tower.

About 450 poppadoms and a height of around one and a half meters seems to be the benchmark to beat.

If you are really passionate about curry then you may appreciate this National Curry Week poem which shows that a love of curry is not restricted to humans.

Naturally, you can search 5pm by cuisine and find what deals are running at your nearest Indian restaurant.
