May

The Taste of Edinburgh event takes place. Its future is now under discussion.

The Yak and Yeti Nepalese restaurant opens in Edinburgh and becomes the immediate front runner for the Funniest Restaurant Name awards.

Scottish butcher Paul Boyle scooped two titles at the British Pie Championships in Melton Mowbray. Perhaps the most surprising thing about the win is that one of the gongs was for a veggie pie.

Stravaigin puts grey squirrel on its Wild Food menu. The Herald anounces that the chef hopes diners ‘will go nuts for squirrel’. Boom! Boom!

Quirky Hillhead Bookclub opens in Glasgow’s West End.

Trampy and The Tramp’s Glasgow World of Curry are named as the Curry Lovers of the Year at the Scottish Curry Awards. An emotional night for all concerned.

The second branch of Chop Chop opened in Leith.

There was some football on.

BrewDog provided plenty of newspaper-baiting images in 2010

The Festival in the Sky launches. A dining table suspended high above Princes Street Gardens, it was the venue for six marriage proposals.

BrewDog bring out a 55% ABV beer called The End of History. It costs £500 a bottle and each bottle comes in a roadkill animal.

The newly launched Tropeiro helps beef up Glasgow’s South American culinary credentials; a job previously carried out by Boteco do Brazil.

The recently opened Cup rides the New Afternoon Tea wave.

Castle Terrace, the new restaurant from Tom Kitchin’s stable opened in Edinburgh.

Jamie’s Italian opens in Glasgow. It is so busy that one night it ran out of food.

Tony’s Table closes in Edinburgh despite winning a Bib Gourmand in January.

The Drake opens in Charing X and gets the thumbs-up from Joanna Blythman.

The Corinthian Club re-opens in Glasgow after a multi-million pound refurbishment.

The Long Way Home bistro and bar opens in Glasgow. Lots of yummy gin.

Foodies Festival in Edinburgh goes down a storm. Not least thanks to comedian Tim Vine punching popcorn with boxing gloves.
