'I see the 5pm blog's waistline expanding'

It’s that time of year when bloggers, journalists and foodies put on their thinking hats and try to predict what food trends will affect our diets in the coming year.

There are some thoughtful predictions on this epicurious blog by Tanya Steel. It’s written from an American point of view so not all of it is particularly relevant over here. Urban wineries seem unlikely to catch on in the UK.

However, her prediction that foraging is going to become more popular seems spot on as does her forecast for meat-free Mondays and, ugh, tofu-Thursdays.

I also liked the idea that Tiki bars are due to become popular again especially since The Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn opened on Bath Street in Glasgow recently.
