Tam loves Tapela

The weekend’s newspapers brought good cheer for more than one 5pm member restaurant. Writing in The Record, Tam Cowan was chuffed with his meal at Tapela and vowed to definitely return.

He liked ‘the good, bustling atmosphere’; ‘amazing’ scallops and ‘very good’ tempura king prawns. As for the chorizo sausage with red wine and piquillo peppers, ‘it was the most memorable dish I’ve ever tried in a tapas restaurant’.

Meanwhile, over at the magazine in Saturday’s Herald, Ron MacKenna was similarly pleased with his meal at Balthassar. Despite being a bit puzzled by some of the pricing, the critic thought the two main dishes he tried were ‘outstanding value at this level of cooking’.

All in all, he reckoned that Balthassar was ‘different, classy, good’.
