The Ubiquitous Chip: looking good at 40

Glasgow’s Ubiquitous Chip will be 40 in 2011 and they are celebrating the landmark birthday with a year-long programme of events and special menus.

Colin Clydesdale, son of the Chip’s founder Ronnie, has designed a menu celebrating the different styles of food served in the restaurant since it opened in 1971.

For one week, running from Tuesday the 12th to 19th January, in addition to the a la carte menu, the restaurant will be offering a set menu with each course representing a different decade. The four course menu will cost £19.95.

The menu will feature:

  • Loch Fyne Herrings Lorraine from the 1970s

  • Garvelloch scallops with a potato rosti and Chamberry coral sauce from the 1990s

  • Perthshire wood pigeon with pearl barley mushroom risotto and a duo of mushroom cream and game sauce from the 2000s

  • Hebridean carrageen snow egg with Grand Marnier from the 1980s
