Glasgow's Metropolitan hope to celebrate a winner with their Cheltenham races package

What are the odds on enjoying a day at the Cheltenham Gold Cup races in Glasgow?

Well, if you head down to the Metropolitan Bar in the Merchant City, it’s a dead cert.

Yesterday, the blog asked what added features might tempt you into a bar or restaurant that you wouldn’t have visited otherwise. The newly refurbed Metropolitan has risen to the occasion like Red Rum rising to the jump at Beechers Brook.

They are hosting a Cheltenham Gold Cup hospitality event and offering corporate clients an opportunity to treat their guests to a day at the races in Merchant Square.

The National Hunt Festival Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place on Friday 18 March and Metropolitan is offering platinum and gold packages to people keen to experience the special atmosphere of the races but in Glasgow.

Metropolitan Manager Darren Scott said: ‘The Cheltenham Festival has traditionally drawn a diverse audience since its inception in the early 1800’s.

‘Offering all the facilities you might expect at the Cheltenham racecourse itself, those with an already keen interest in racing will have everything they need for a truly authentic experience, while novices can enjoy the fantastic hospitality on offer. All this creates an ideal environment for drawing business associates and clients together for a unique and memorable day infused with passion, emotion and, if you’re lucky, celebration!’

Metropolitan’s most popular Platinum Cheltenham Gold Cup package costs £1000 plus VAT for groups of ten. Guests can expect a champagne reception; full three course lunch with wine, bottled beer and spirits on the table; late afternoon tea and coffee with pastries; a race card; racing papers; betting facilities and tipsters and free parking if required.

Meanwhile, for tables of two to twenty, the Gold Package, at £75 plus VAT per person per day, is priced individually to include a glass of champagne on arrival; a beautiful three course lunch; wine and bottled beers; betting facilities; tipsters; race card and papers.

Screens, situated throughout the restaurant, will show all the action and Metropolitan’s Laurent Perrier champagne bar will open from 5pm for those in the mood for celebrating.

A grand plus VAT for a table of ten? Stick a monkey on Honest John in the 3.15 and you’ll be laughing. Easy money.
