Make like Lenny and get your nose into Wine Relief

Putting a slightly different spin on Red Nose Day is the fifth Scottish Comic Relief Wine Fair which will be held in Edinburgh’s Playfair Library on Wednesday 16 March 2011.

The event is hosted by Master of Wine Rose Murray Brown and some eighteen different retailers will be on hand to dispense samples. The merchants range from supermarkets such as Waitrose and M&S to independents such as Woodwinters and Villeneuve.

If you like wine then it’s a great way to try lots of different bottles and raise money for charity. Wine Relief has contributed some £3.8 million since it started in 1999.

To help raise further funds for Wine Relief at the event, there will be a Quiz with Wines of Chile and a Chocolate/Wine matching competition with Ananda Chocolates.

There will also be a Grand Raffle with a star prize of dinner for two & overnight stay at The Peat Inn restaurant in Fife.  Other prizes include: meal for two at Harvey Nichols, £100 restaurant voucher for Scotch Malt Whisky Society, £100 Majestic Wine voucher, £50 Valvona & Crolla voucher, jeroboam of Bollinger, magnum of Pol Roger 2000, magnum of Allegrini Palazzo de Torre, magnum of Yalumba The Signature, magnum of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, copies of World Atlas of Wine, Purple Pages subscriptions and more.

This blogger has fond memories of the wine fair after scoring a half case of vino on the raffle one year.

Tickets at £20 per person for the 5th Comic Relief Wine Fair are available at www.hubtickets.co.uk or telephone 0131 473 2000.

The wine fair runs from 7-9pm. If you fancy a little bite to eat afterwards then there are loads of 5pm members in the vicinity.
