The clock is ticking on Browns opening in Glasgow

If you’re hungry for food news in the Central Belt then have we got a banquet for you. Well, perhaps not. It’s actually more of a pretty decent pre-theatre offer . .

In Edinburgh, Lazio on Lothian Road is in the process of becoming Rombo Verde which promises to specialise in seafood and what it terms ‘an innovative lunchtime rosticceria’.

In Glasgow, the Browns group of restaurants is in the process of opening it’s first outlet in the city. Situated on George Square, the new venture should give Jamie’s Italian a run for its money. It offers classic brasserie dishes and it opens in 21 days time.

Sticking with Glasgow, Colin Barr is as busy as ever. His latest throw of the dice is Chambre 69. A club space and bar on 69 Mandela Place, it is apparently named after Colin’s favourite bar Chambre Neuf in Chamonix.

Inspired by the current NYC craze for dive bars, Chambre 69 aims to sell burgers, beer and BBQ by day and switch over to being an underground clubbing spot as night falls.

Their first big event takes place tonight with Andy Weatherall DJing at the aftershow party for the Primal Scream gig at the SECC.
