London's Met Bar: soon to be a hotbed of insurrection. And afternoon tea.

Irrespective of whether you are a confirmed republican or if you are already hanging out the bunting for the Kate and Wills wedding, the event is prompting some fun among the bar and restaurant trade.

In London, The Met Bar seems to be reverting back to the mid-Nineties when it was the scene for all sorts of Britpop misbehaviour. At its height, hardly a day seemed to go by without a red top splash on a member of Blur/Oasis/All Saints being papped stumbling out of its doors.

To mark ‘that’ wedding, they are holding an An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea which will be available from 22 April – 8 May.

As well as a punk rock soundtrack, the theme stretches to Sex Pistols-inspired cocktails such as the God Save the Queen.

Possibly in homage to Kate Moss and the other models that frequented the bar in its heyday, the actual menu is v low calorie. Think breadless cucumber sarnies and cupcakes made with olive oil.

Rather closer to home, the Butchershop Bar and Grill on Argyle Street, will be holding a royal afternoon tea on Friday April 29 from 12pm.

As well as posh sarnies, scones and tartlets, the bar will be whipping up Kiss Me Kate Champagne cocktails and Pimm’s flavoured Prince’s Punch.

The blog suspects that they may have missed a trick by not concocting a drink after the best man. Harry’s Brawl sounds like a winner to me.

The afternoon tea for two, including two glasses of Prosecco, is £25.

Sticking with the Butchershop, the restaurant will be gving a free Mimosa to any Mum who orders a Sunday brunch or roast on Sunday.
