Martin Wishart: hinting very softly at possible Glasgow opening

The last couple of days have provided a fine crop of foodie news stories; some pertaining to Glasgow and Edinburgh; others which cast their net a little wider.

Over at the excellent Glasgow West End blog, Roy Beers has updated his rolling reports on the bars and restaurants of Byres Road and the surrounding area.

He throws a little more light on the Pakistani Cafe at the bottom of Byres Road which we blogged about earlier this week. According to Mr Beers, it is owned by the same team behind the Pakistani Cafe in the Southside and, from his report, it seems a good addition to the area’s existing spicy delights.

We’ve already blethered about Martin Wishart opening a new brasserie in Edinburgh’s city centre. According to this interview in yesterday’s Big Hospitality, there is a possibility that the concept will be rolled out, perhaps to Glasgow. We also learn that the name of the new venue is to be released soon and that the opening is now scheduled for mid-June.

If that seems a long time to wait then you might want to look at the sample menus on the 5pm page for Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond.

On a much more general tip, there’s a fun piece in today’s Telegraph about the joys of the Bloody Mary. Apparently a top taste boffin has declared it to be the world’s most complex cocktail. We’ll drink to that.
