Crab: always in season

The blog was at a restaurant recently that prides itself on the local and seasonal mantra. All very admirable until they served asparagus with the main course.

Perhaps someone, somewhere in Scotland has figured how to grow asparagus in February but it seems much more likely that the restaurant’s local sourcing policy means nipping down to their local supermarket.

I would feel more outraged but that asparagus was absolutely fantastic. Where ever it came from.

Anyway, if you clicky here then you will be taken through to a handy little site that shows what food is in season when in Scotland. It comes from Natural Scotland, a government body, and it’s optimised for most smartphones.

Once you’ve found what’s in season then you can click through and pick up recipes using the ingredient in question.

You’re a bit stuck for local fruit at the moment. In fact, rhubarb is your only option but it’s a good month for fish.
