A new branch of Amarone is opening in Edinburgh

Assuming that the ink has dried on the contracts then it should be safe to say that the Di Maggio’s group is poised to open a new restaurant on Edinburgh’s George Street.

The privately-owned company plans to open a branch of Amarone on the corner of George Street and St Andrew Square. The premises used to house The Grape wine bar.

As well as seven Di Maggio’s restaurants, the company operates L’Ariosto and Amarone Italian restaurants in Glasgow as well as branches of Cafe Andaluz, their Spanish tapas concept in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Scheduled to open at the end of June or beginning of July, the new Amarone would join Cafe Andaluz as the second Edinburgh outpost of the mainly West Coast-based Di Maggio’s empire.

Speaking to the blog, Di Maggio’s director Mario Gizzi said, ‘The new restaurant will have around 150 seats in the restaurant area and then a wine bar which will hold perhaps another fifty people. Cafe Andaluz has been trading well for us over the last three years and we’re happy to be opening another restaurant in Edinburgh.’

The group is keen to expand further with possible sites in Aberdeen, Manchester and Glasgow all under discussion.
