Beer: goes well with curry

Sometimes all an event title need do is spell out what will happen at the event.

Step forward Glasgow Beer Week, a straightforward no-nosense type of title which leaves little to the imagination.

Starting on Friday 27 May and running until Friday 3 June, the event has clear aims. As its marketing bumf states: ‘Beer is great – and Glasgow Beer Week aims to put Glasgow on the map as a great place to drink beer.’

It’s an admirable objective which the organisers hope to achieve through a series of tastings, special menus, pedal to a pint runs and well lubricated beer discussions.

The rapidly expanding list of events is here.

The blog’s eye was caught by a week long beer-themed menu which John Quigley is putting on at his Red Onion restaurant.

We were also intrigued by the curry and beer evening which mysteriously promises that this won’t just be any old curry or any old beer.

The latter event was brought to our attention by Trampy and the Tramp’s Glasgow of Curry blog which is in quite a froth at being titillated by some novel spicy sensations.

The curry-scarfing lads are also on tenterhooks as they have been nominated for the title of Curry Lovers of the Year alongside the Record’s Tam Cowan and Hector’s Curry-Heute, an enthusiastic curry blog run by a Glasgow-dwelling German chap called, can you guess, Hector.

The award is part of the Hungry House Scottish Curry Awards which take place on Monday.

Trampy and the Tramp scooped the Curry Lovers of the Year prize last year. Can they do it again?
