Mussels: big fans of white wine, garlic and parsley

The restaurant business is a fickle one with where today’s must visit, hot spot venture is tomorrow’s leftovers languishing at the back of the fridge.

So it’s a big slap on the back and hearty congratulations to the Mussel Inn in Glasgow which is celebrating its tenth birthday this weekend by giving diners a free slice of cake and a glass of bubbly on Friday and Saturday.

Matt Johansson, food and beverage manager at Mussel Inn, said: ‘Reaching the grand old age of ten is something of an achievement in the fast-changing restaurant trade, so this is our way of thanking our many customers for their support over the years. After all, it’s they who have made the Mussel Inn something of an institution on Glasgow’s dining scene this last decade so what better way than to celebrate a significant birthday than with our customers?’

As the name suggests, mussels play a starring role at the Hope Street restaurant. However, the bivalves are not the only fruit de mer on offer. Queen scallop platters, chilled and grilled oysters, shellfish pasta, tiger prawns, king scallops, hot seafood platters and grilled sea bass are also on the menu along with meat and veggie options.
