Barolo Grill's sparkling new interior

The restaurant trade is gearing up for the summer season with new places popping up all over the place and old ones being given a makeover.

In Glasgow, the venerable L’Ariosto on Mitchell Street has been transformed into Barolo Grill, an upmarket Italian steakhouse. The first customers will be welcomed over the threshold this Friday.

It’s run by the same company that have the DiMaggio’s restaurants; the Cafe Andaluz group and also Amarone on Nelson Mandela Place. You can book into any of the aforementioned restaurants simply by clicking on them.

While the menu will be different, the owners reckon that Amarone and the new Barolo Grill will be cast from roughly the same suave mould.

Although Barolo Grill will offer pasta and a range of pizza and foccacia, steaks are going to be the centre piece of the menu. Rubbed with rosemary, bay, garlic, lemon, sea salt, pepper and sage salt, they are supplied by Simon Howie and matured on the bone.

They start at £18.95 for a ten ounce sirloin steak.

A good selection of Barolos is promised along with a wide choice of other Italian wines.
