Maule mans the pass at Le Chardon D'Or

Well, actually, it’s happy birthday to Brian’s restaurant.

Brian Maule at Le Chardon D’Or celebrates its tenth birthday this month so we thought that we’d give Mr M and his West Regent Street restaurant a well deserved slap on the back.

Famously, Brian ran the kitchen at Le Gavroche for the Roux family for ten years before he struck out on his own and opened in Glasgow way back in 1991.

Rather like dog years, one year for a restaurant is the equivalent of at least five years in human terms so Le Chardon D’Or is a bit of a veteran of the industry.

Over the years, fine dining restaurants such as Amaryllis and Abode’s fine dining have dipped their toes in the waters of the Glasgow restaurant scene and found it rather chilly.

The last few months have not been easy for anyone in the restaurant trade but Le Chardon D’Or seems to be going swimmingly.

His new lunch menu is just out and it looks mighty fine. Your blogger had a great lunch there a few weeks back and can thoroughly recommend the experience.

Naturally, 5pm has plenty of offers at Le Chardon D’Or if you want to see what all the fuss is about. You can catch them here.

In the past, we’ve blogged about the restaurant’s demo lunches where guests can watch Brian work up a couple of dishes while sipping on something cold and fizzy.

Having completed that arduous task, guests sit down in the restaurant and scoff the chef’s creations. The next one is on Saturday 26 June. It costs £44.
