Yesterday, we blogged about the Royal Highland Show which kicks off today.

Slow Food have come up with a new initiative to bring a little bit of the Show into the centre of Edinburgh. Some of the restaurants which have particularly close links to farmers and other primary food producers are running special menus to celebrate those links.

Slow Food’s Donald Reid commented, ‘We’ve long felt that while the Royal Highland Show is a big event at Ingliston, it doesn’t seem to impact the city at large. Farming is about food, after all.

‘To bring a bit of the show into town, we’ve been encouraging local restaurants that value their connections to Scottish farmers to celebrate those links this week with special, dinners, menus or tastings.

Scotland’s largest agricultural event should be a great excuse to remind diners and visitors that shorter links from farm to plate helps inspire better farming and better food, more interesting menus and more memorable meals. Let’s enjoy food that’s well connected.’

The 5pm member restaurants which are taking part are Creelers, Centotre and L’Escargot Bleu.
