Sun, sunglasses, drinking al fresco: unbelievably, it's a July day in Scotland

In a rare turn of events, the weather forecast for Edinburgh this weekend looks remarkably sunny.

Fantastic news for anyone thinking of heading to the Taste festival on The Meadows.

The Saturday afternoon session has sold out but there are still tickets available for the other stints. You can buy tickets for a fiver from 5pm by clicking through here.

As an alternative, you might want to consider the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust Scottish Game Fair.

The title is a bit of a mouthful but it should be a fun bash.

Held at Scone Palace from today until Sunday, the event has plenty to interest food lovers.

Some fifty or so producers will be selling their honey, meat, cakes and so on while the cookery demo theatre has a packed schedule of chefs, butchers and farmers all doing their thing.

Nichola Fletcher of Seriously Good Venison will be cooking with trout, pheasant and, of course, venison while Tom Lewis of Monachyle Mhor and indeed the Great British Menu will be preparing venison and oyster dishes.

Fiona Burrell of Edinburgh New Town Cookery School will be teaching fish filleting and bird jointing skills.

Other attractions include ferreting, 4X4 circuits, archery, falconry displays, clay pigeon shooting and even helicopter rides.

The blog’s eye was caught by the opportunity to go water zorbing. Apparently, this involves climbing into a giant plastic ball which enables you to walk on water, a talent which many chefs suspect they already harbour.
