Bob Marley: now flogging soft drinks

The blog has no strong feelings about Bob Marley beyond liking a couple of the better known songs and scoffing gently at dippy students who put posters of the man on their walls.

Still, we did wonder what he would have made of a new range of soft drinks which are being launched under his name. Apparently designed to reduce stress, relieve tension, calm the soul and ease the mind, Marley’s Mellow Mood drinks have been created in association with the Marley family.

According to the press release ‘The refreshing range was created to help move the Marley family’s mission forward with the principles of his belief in that calm breeds peace, respect and love.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s death. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit has never backed down in his fight to end corporate and political greed, abolish prejudice and spread peace, harmony and equality throughout the planet.’

Hmmm, spreading peace, promoting equality and fighting the man, one can of juice at a time. It would be fascinating to see what Bob would have made of this.

This could start a trend for using dead rock stars to sell themed drinks. Manufacturers must be counting off the days until John Lydon pops his clogs and they can start selling Punk Pop – The Rotten Rebellion in a can.

There, that’s that off my chest.
