Simon Munnery: maitre d', chef, bottle washer and agent provocateur

Depending on which side of the fence you choose, La Concepta, Simon Munnery’s pop-up conceptual restaurant represents either the best or the worst of Edinburgh during the Fringe.

Munnery is a veteran comic who you may recognise from previous guises such as Alan Parker Urban Warrior or from his 2001 TV show Attention Scum!

He is in Edinburgh this month to do his Hats Off To The 101ers show at The Stand. If you like your humour anarchic but with a political conscience then you’ll probably like it. I wrote a review of it here.

Munnery’s other wheeze while in Edinburgh is La Concepta which is billed as ‘France’s premiere pop-up restaurant’ and offers ‘all the rigmarole of haute cuisine without the shame of eating’.

Packed into two trunks, La Concepta can quickly set up pretty much anywhere. Munnery plays all four staff and promises ‘a varied menu of conceptual dishes comprising plates of art, jokes, songs, audio installations and more.’

Daily lunch sittings for a maximum of four highly exclusive covers can be booked here at £10 a head.

Could be great. Could be pants but will definitely be more entertaining than dining al desko with a Boots meal deal.
