Head chef David Friel predicts that steak will be on trend this season

This blogger’s knowledge of dressing stylishly is fairly scant. If I get through the day without once forgetting to zip my fly then it’s been a good day for fashion around my gaffe.

Others are different. Take the fashionistas at The Grill Room in Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square. They know about fashion.

They know that not only is September the month in which London Fashion Week happens but it’s also the month in which all the rag trade mags make their predictions for the new season.

To celebrate all that catwalk action, the kitchen brigade at The Grill Room have created what they are calling ‘the ultimate dinner table accessory’, the Mulberry Steak.

The designer dish, an ode to the 40-year-old British luxury-handbag maker Mulberry, has been exclusively designed for fashion-loving women by Head Chef David Friel. Priced at £15.95, it is a far cry from its namesake’s £695 price tag.

The Mulberry is a chargrilled four ounce Scotch beef fillet served with a mulberry and black peppercorn sauce.

Apparently, there may be related health benefits to eating mulberry. Word has it that mulberry is packed with anti-ageing properties that could give skin back its youthful bloom and even reduce the onset of wrinkles and grey hair.

Look, we’re not saying that one Mulberry Steak for lunch and you’ll look 21 by dinner time but, as excuses for wolfing a steak go, it’s a goodie.

The Mulberry Steak is available at The Grill Room from tomorrow.
