Sanjay Majhu celebrates the lauch of 5pm takeaway with a homegrown Mac-sala

Irn Bru may well be made in Scotland from girders but, to celebrate the launch of the 5pm takeaway service, Glasgow’s Curry King has come up with a new national dish which is made in Scotland from green chillies, coriander and cherry tomatoes.

Scotland and curry have a long, deep and mutual love affair. Sanjay Majhu, boss of the Harlequin Restaurant group which is behind the popular Ashoka eateries, has decided to cement that relationship by creating an eco-friendly curry, or Mac-sala, in which all the ingredients come from Scotland.

Made with Scotch beef, lamb or chicken, the low carbon footprint Mac-sala was created to celebrate the launch of the 5pm takeaway service and it is being sold exclusively through 5pm.co.uk

The popular website features over 20,000 dishes and over 20 different types of cuisine from 200 different takeaways in and around Glasgow – promising hungry customers easy online ordering at the click of a mouse.

Charles Shaw, Chairman of 5pm.co.uk said ‘The Mac-sala is a great way to celebrate the launch of our takeaway service, as we all know how much Scots’ love their curries so we think Sanjay’s creation will be a popular choice with diners keen to sample just what kind of dish Scotland’s spices can create.’

There have been attempts at cross-cultural culinary combos before. The haggis pakora has a long and noble history in Scottish Indian restaurants and takeaways but Mahju’s Mac-sala goes several steps further.

‘Indian dishes rely heavily on exotic ingredients that can normally only be sourced from afar and shipped or flown into the country,’ said Sanjay. ‘Scotland has such an amazing natural larder that I was inspired to create a curry using only homegrown herbs and spices and the results have astounded me. As quite the curry connoisseur, I’m very hard to please but, let me tell you, it’s absolutely delicious and packs every bit of a punch.’

The new Mac-sala can be ordered from Sanjays Green Chilli restaurant by clicking here.
