Make like Wallace and explore the wonderful of cheese at Hotel Du Vin Glasgow

Hey ho, another Tuesday. Possibly the worst day of the week on account of the fact that the working week is in full swing but the weekend is still a long way off.

But that’s not the attitude which we take at 5pm Towers. Around these parts, Tuesdays are great days for looking ahead to the coming weeks and planning which gourmet dates to put in the diary.

The good people at the Scottish Hotel du Vin restaurants have a tasty selection of events taking place over the next few weeks.

First up is an afternoon of cheese tasting in the Hotel du Vin in Glasgow on Saturday 1st October.

Cheesemeister George Mewes will be leading the fromage faithful through a global selection of cheeses from Lanark through to the Pyrenees. Complementary wines chosen by the sommelier Laurent will help it all go with a swing.

Tickets are £19.50 per head and it kicks off at 2pm.

Saturday 8th October sees wine lunches taking place at the Hotel du Vin in Glasgow and the Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh.

In Edinburgh, Mariela Molinari will be talking through a range of Nicolas Catena wines made from grapes grown high in the Argentinean Andes. Three course, canapés and the wine, costs £50 a head.

In Glasgow, Carmen Richards will be extolling the virtues of Chile’s Valdivieso wines. Along with lunch, the wines on offer include whites, reds, a botrytis pudding wine and a small glass of the famous Caballo Loco, a wine with a unique story behind it. Tickets are £47.50.

Looking further ahead, the 5pm blog liked the sound of the Halloween dinner taking place at the Edinburgh HdV on Friday 28th October. In between courses, actors from the Mercat Tours company will perform scenes from the Trial of Dr Knox. Naturally, the dinner will be held in the Burke and Hare private dining room. Dinner and entertainment is £40 per person.
