It will be all fright on the night at Stravaigin. Pic courtesy of Martin Grey

The Stravaigin team in Glasgow are riding high at the moment after being awarded Bib Gourmand status in the latest UK Michelin Guide.

Denoting ‘good food at moderate prices’, it’s yet another feather in the kitchen’s trilby.

Stravaigin are always up to something interesting whether it be serving squirrel or, rather less controversially, celebrating the Day of the Dead on Wednesday 2 November.

Kind of like the Latin American version of Halloween, Día de los Muertos is when the dead can revisit the living. While Halloween has always had slightly frightening aspects, Día de los Muertos is more about paying your respects to ancestors.

And feasting. Which is where Stravaigin comes in.

On the night, the Gibson Street business will recreate the look and feel of a traditional day of the dead parade inside the restaurant.

The night will feature Mariachi music and a make-up artist will be on site to help recreate the day of the dead look.  There will be additional special prizes for anyone in fancy dress and a competition for the most creative costume.

Upstairs, in the bar, guests will be able to sample a bowl of traditional or vegetarian chilli and bottle of Modelo Mexican beer for £7.95.

In the restaurant downstairs, an authentic four course fiesta of Mexican food over will take place. The meal costs £30pp and includes a Mexican beer. The menu comprises:

Salt ling and turtle bean fritters, tomatillo salsa

Sopa Azteca with corn tortillas and avocado

Roast chicken breast with mole negro and Mexican rustic rice

Churros with salted caramel, hot chocolate and hot chocolate sauce
