The recently opened Bar Milano in Hamilton

It’s all kicking off in Glasgow and the surrounding area where new bars, restaurants and cafes are springing up like culinary X Factor hopefuls.

We hear annoyingly vague rumours of a new fine dining Indian restaurant which is planning to open in the Southside later on this month. More info as we get it.

We have more concrete news about Vespbar, a retro Italian caffe bar which aims to open on Drury Street mid-October. It is currently taking shape in the former O’Henry’s premises.

Meanwhile in Hamilton, Bar Milano has come into being in the Avonbridge Hotel. It actually launched in July but seems to be hitting its stride now.

Italian cocktails such as Negronis are to the fore alongside Italian tapas snacks such as mini-pizza; stuffed rice balls and olive platters.

Back in Glasgow, Mackintosh’s bar on Cambridge Street has had a revamp and is now labelled Jackson’s Drinkmonger.

Stepping away from the bar for a moment, Gandolfi Fish has just been given a new look and has also opened Gandolfi Fish To Go which promises seven different kinds of fish supper. If you would prefer to sit in then you can check their 5pm deals here.

On nearby Glassford Street, Stewart’s Victorian Tea Rooms are busy pouring the Darjeeling and plating the fancy cakes.

And finally, as we have already noted, Viva Brazil opens this week and we will have all the goss after their opening party on Thursday night.
