OK, so we told you about the inaugural meeting of the Wicked Steak Club at The Grill Room in the Square. Back then the club’s steak-loving fans got stuck into an 8oz fillet or 10 oz sirloin from Cairnhill Farms in Ayrshire.

For the Wicked Steak Club’s next meeting on Sunday 4th December, steak enthusiasts can get their laughing gear around a USDA Prime Graded grain fed 10oz rib steak. ‘Yee haaa!’ as they would say in Texas, if presented with such a meaty beauty.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspects and grades beef products with familiar grades such as USDA Prime, USDA Choice and USDA Select. Eight different levels of quality are measured and graded.

The guest steak, which is not normally served in the restaurant, will be the premier grade of beef – the finest and most-tender available. An expert guest speaker on the night will be able to inform diners all about this steak and just what makes it so good.

The evening will start with wine and canapés on arrival; freshly baked home-made bread; roast beef consommé followed by crayfish and avocado gateau with spicy tomato dressing.

The guest steak will be served with a special steak sauce, goose fat chips, sautéed wild mushrooms and cauliflower cheese gratin.  Dessert will be a pear tart tatin with vanilla ice cream and, if you have any room left, you can enjoy coffee or tea.

Not sure what an American crowd would make of something so suspiciously French as a pear tart tatin but there we go.

Inspired by the original fine dining clubs of the 18th and 19th centuries, The Wicked Steak Club meets four times a year to offer members quality cuts of fresh meat from the finest suppliers. Each dish will be lovingly prepared and infused with some surprising twists by The Grill Room’s Executive head chef David Friel and his team.

In honour of this and for their second Wicked Steak Club, The Grill Room at the Square will present an American delight on Sunday 4th December.
