Cafe St Honore: lovely and calm in the dining room but all hands on deck in the kitchens

It’s all go at Cafe St Honoré where Neil Forbes, Scottish Chef of the Year at the most recent Scottish Restaurant Awards, is the boss man in the kitchen.

Tonight, the restaurant is hosting one of Slow Food Edinburgh’s monthly dinners. They tend to be casual affairs with everyone sat around a large table chewing over the foodie issues of the day.

Tonight’s menu offers a choice:

Crispy fried breast of Hugh Grierson organic lamb with anchovy dressing and winter leaves Whole East Coast plaice with Heritage potato and fennel

Lothian roots, barley, cream and kale bake

Including a glass of red or white wine, or Cuddybridge apple juice or Innis & Gunn beer, the cost is £10.

If you can’t make tonight, then check out Cafe St Honoré’s 5pm deals. They are running their cafe classics menu at £22.50 for three courses and a glass of wine.

Finally, Mr Forbes has been hard at work making Christmas puddings. With over twenty components, just reading the ingredients list is exhausting but the blog was cheered to see that brandy, Guinness, sherry and rum are all in the mix.

The restaurant is selling the puds at £10 a time. They come in a ceramic bowl and will feed four.
