Martha's rather stunning mackerel salad

Martha’s is a new fast casual restaurant which has just opened on St Vincent Street in Glasgow city centre. Inspired by new openings in America and, more recently, London, the fast casual concept aims to combine high quality produce with fast food speed and convenience.

At the 50 seat Martha’s, this means that all meals are prepared on-site from scratch by a team of chefs led by Scottish chef, Alan Doig, previously of Stravaigin and The Corinthian. As well as being eco-friendly in terms of their recyclable packaging, Martha’s is also something of a food miles angel. Seasonal and local are the criteria which shape their menus and their suppliers which include Ramsey’s of Carluke, MacCallums of Troon and Cairnhill Farm in Ayrshire.

Available to eat in or go, the seasonally changing menu includes dishes such as porridge pots, BLTs, soups, salads and flatbread wraps along with hot main courses like Moroccan meatballs, chipotle chicken and Red Dragon Pork, slow roasted, Ramsey’s free range pork with sesame, chilli, ginger and spring onion.

Breakfast dishes start at £1. At lunch, soups start from £2.45 and salads from £3.75 while full hot dinners begin at £4.25.

Decent nutritional values are also high on the list of Martha’s priorities. A leading nutritionist has been involved in the planning of the meals so diners can get information about their meal, such as which are light options; which are gluten free and which are slow burn and designed to keep you going for longer.

Martha’s was designed by Graven Images so, as you might expect, it looks pretty funky as well. It opens 7.30am-6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
