The Unthanks are playing Celtic Connections

The blog has just received its first energy bill of 2012 and it’s a doozie which won’t be dented much by Aunt Brenda’s Christmas postal order for a tenner.

Who’d have thunk that leaving the heating on 24/7 for a week would cost that much?

While your blogger may well be laying off the usual champers and foie gras breakfasts for the forseeable future, this doesn’t mean that I won’t be eating out.

The hair shirt can stay in the wardrobe because not only have 5pm launched their January sales but their Celtic Connections Dinearound offers are also launched today.

With the January sales, there are dozens of restaurants in both Glasgow and Edinburgh offering two courses for a wallet-friendly £12. There is a full list of today’s offers here. Among the restaurants taking part are Amarone, Barolo Grill, Two Fat Ladies West End and Kama Sutra in Glasgow.

Designed to complement the Celtic Connections music festival, the Celtic Connections Dinearound promotion is for two or three course meals for £15.95 in some of Glasgow’s most stylish restaurants.

Those taking part include Brian Maule at Chardon d’Or, Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery, The Ubiquitous Chip, Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, The Sisters and Number 16.
