And the winner of the 13th World Scotch Pie Championships is John G Renicks of Drumlanrig Street, Thornhill in Dumfries and Galloway.

The family-run butcher shop is a regular competitor at the event and has previously won silver and gold medals but this is the first time that the business has scooped the coveted top p(r)ize.

Some 86 pie artisans had entered the Scotch Pie competition including last year’s winner Maurice Irvine of Beith, Ayrshire.

There were several other categories and judges had to taste 120 hot savouries, 66 sausage rolls, 63 bridies, 48 steak pies, 12 vegetarian and ten fish pie entries.

Former Masterchef winner Gerry Goldwyre presented the prizes at an awards lunch held today in Dunfermline.

The blog will have up to date photies and reactions from around the world as they come in.

Stay tuned, pie fans, but don’t hold your breath as it may be until tomorrow before we have more news on this fast developing situation.
