Foodbeats.com: dropping the serving platters that matter

Your blogger has been mildly tickled by FoodBeats, a collaboration between Lurpak and Last FM, which suggests playlists to cook to.

Just launched, the site asks what food you are cooking and how long you expect take to prep it. It then comes up with a soundtrack for your culinary efforts.

Type in meringues and 30 minutes and the first track up is Fantasmas by Buckingham Nicks. Lasagne and 25 minutes yields Elbow’s Any Day Now as the first song. Type in Thai, 10 minutes, and Racoon’s Shooting Star comes up. Quite what the connection is between the songs and the dishes has so far eluded me.

It doesn’t recognise haggis which is a shame as I was looking forward to a blast of the Proclaimers; a squall of Idlewild or perhaps a little Arab Strap.

According to Lurpak’s research, 17% of blokes reach for the Elvis when rustling up a burger and chips while Adele is the most common soundtrack to baking a Victoria sponge. No, really.

Obviously, what you really need is a playlist of Beatles related food puns. Who could resist the Salad of John and Yoko or indeed Lucy in the Pie with Almonds?

No? Let It Brie? Happiness is a Warm Bun?

There are plenty more where they came from.
