The constant drizzle may not be provoking much of a thirst but organisers can bank on plenty of drouthy visitors when the 2012 Scottish Real Ale Festival opens its doors at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange this afternoon.

Dozens of Scottish brewers have brought around a hundred different beers, ales and porters to sample as well as a dozen or so examples of cider and perry.

Entry is a fiver for non-CAMRA members and the festival runs from noon each day until Saturday.

Entertainment comes from folk singer Andrew Gordon; the Caledonian Pipe Band and Kolonel Schnapps, an oompah band whose logo brings to mind a Bavarian Buster Bloodvessel.
