Last year, Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark made it all the way to the finals of Celebrity MasterChef and she has made no secret of the fact that the kitchen would be the first port of call if she ever decided to change career. She has even registered the domain name Kirsty’s Kitchen for just such an eventuality.

She will be getting a taste of working in a professional kitchen this coming Sunday when she joins the team at Edinburgh’s Mithas restaurant as the latest in their series of guest chefs. Winner of the Best Indian Restaurant at the Scottish Restaurant Awards, Mithas in Leith has set about reinventing Indian cookery with a series of menu that go far beyond chicken tikka masala.

The presenter will step into the kitchen at Mithas on Sunday June 24th with all profits going to St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh. Her appearance is the latest in a series of guest chef nights which have included Nick Nairn, Roy Brett and Cyrus Todiwala.

‘Kirsty is the first amateur chef to join us for a night but she has ambition and real skill so we can’t wait to see what she delivers with all the spices and techniques of the Mithas kitchen at her disposal,’ said Mithas owner Islam Mohammed.
