Michael Neave hopes to make a name for himself at his eponymous Edinburgh restaurant

Just a quickie to mention Michael Neave, a young chef who has just launched his own eponymous kitchen and whisky bar in the Old Fishmarket Close, just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

Neave may be in his early twenties but has already got a number of flying years under his belt with stints at The Bonham and Amber Restaurant in the Scotch Whisky Experience.

The latter helps explain the occasional appearance of Scotland’s national drink in Neave’s dishes such West Coast scallops with beurre blanc and Caol Ila.

If memory serves, the last young chef to try to make his mark in the Old Fishmarket Close was James Stocks who created headlines for all the wrong reasons a few years back.

Hopefully Neave will be more successful than his predecessor. A finalist in the Young Chef of the Year competition in 2010, he certainly has the chops when it comes to delivering on the plate.
